Process

Work Planning and Preparation

This initial stage involves defining the technical, regulatory, and logistical framework for rehabilitation work prior to any on-site intervention. The objectives are to ensure a site ready for operation, compliant with technical, legal, and safety requirements.

Excavation, Management, and Transport of Contaminated Soils

The excavation, management, and transport stage for contaminated soils involves removing contaminated soils and managing their destination while considering the lowest costs for our clients. The objectives are for contaminated soils to be removed, analyzed or separated from residual materials, and then transported to a treatment or landfill facility in accordance with the Regulation respecting the traceability of excavated contaminated soils.

Final Rehabilitation, Monitoring, and Backfilling

The final rehabilitation, monitoring, and backfilling stage involves verifying the compliance of in-situ soils and restoring the site. This includes the analysis and confirmation of excavation walls and bases, backfilling with clean and compliant materials, compaction, leveling, and final landscaping, followed by the preparation of a final report on the completed work.

Our Methods and Innovations for Superior Quality Services

We primarily employ two methods to ensure the effectiveness of our conventional excavation-based rehabilitation work. Each method is selected to meet the most stringent safety and performance standards. These methods incorporate innovations to maximize the rehabilitation efforts required to achieve compliance objectives at a reduced cost.

Excavation and Disposal

Simple excavation and disposal involve a soil rehabilitation method through excavation, off-site transport, and disposal at a treatment or landfill facility. The advantages of this rather rudimentary technique are its applicability when contaminated soil volumes are relatively limited and contaminants are challenging to treat. Furthermore, the site must be rehabilitated quickly. Its drawbacks include that contaminants are not eliminated but merely relocated; costs are often high; there is a significant ecological footprint in terms of greenhouse gas emissions; and it does not align with the concept of valorization (e.g., treating residual materials as aggregates).

Excavation, Segregation, and Disposal

The process of soil rehabilitation through excavation, on-site treatment, off-site transport, and disposal at a treatment or landfill facility is a sustainable strategy. It is applicable to all volumes of contaminated soils, whether contaminants are easy or difficult to treat, and allows for rapid rehabilitation. However, it requires more planning time and larger spaces for the segregation and optimization of different fractions (low-level contaminated soils, highly contaminated soils, and residual materials).

FAQs

Discover our answers to frequently asked questions about our environmental services.

Environmental rehabilitation work on a site is necessitated by the presence of soils that do not meet regulatory standards. Indeed, if non-compliant soils are detected beneath the foundations of an existing building on a property, they must be removed from the site. This allows for the issuance of a rehabilitation report confirming that all soils on the property comply with current regulations. Should a building require excavation work, Biotix offers tailored solutions!

This is the most common question posed by property owners requiring environmental rehabilitation. Contact Biotix today; our environmental rehabilitation cost estimates are complimentary!

Yes, at Biotix, confirmation analyses following excavation or segregation are highly recommended, as they confirm to the client that the soils are non-compliant and require off-site transport to a treatment or landfill facility.
