Process

Job planning and preparation

This first stage consists of defining the technical, regulatory and logistical framework for the rehabilitation work prior to any intervention on site. The aim is to ensure that the worksite is ready for operation, and complies with technical, legal and safety requirements.

Excavation, management and transportation of contaminated soil

The excavation, management and transportation of contaminated soils involves removing contaminated soils and managing their destination while keeping costs as low as possible for our customers. The objectives are to remove contaminated soil, analyze it or separate it from residual materials, then send it to a treatment or landfill site in compliance with the Règlement concernant la traçabilité des sols contaminés excavés (Regulation respecting the traceability of excavated contaminated soil).

Final rehabilitation, monitoring and backfilling

The final remediation, monitoring and backfilling stage consists of verifying the conformity of the soils in place and restoring the site. This involves analyzing and confirming excavation walls and bottoms, backfilling with clean, compliant materials, compacting, grading and final landscaping, and then drawing up a final report on the work carried out.

Expertise

Our methods and innovations for top-quality services

We use two main methods to guarantee the effectiveness of our conventional excavation rehabilitation work. Each is chosen to meet the highest standards of safety and performance. These methods involve innovation to maximize the rehabilitation effort required to meet compliance targets at minimum cost.

Excavation and layout

Simple excavation and disposal is a method of soil remediation involving excavation, off-site transportation and disposal at a treatment or landfill site. The positive points of this very rudimentary technique are that it can be applied when volumes of contaminated soil are relatively limited and contaminants are difficult to treat. In addition, the land must be rehabilitated quickly. Disadvantages include the fact that contaminants are not eliminated, only moved; costs are often high; there is a significant ecological footprint in terms of greenhouse gases; and it does not align with the idea of valorization (for example, treating residual materials as aggregates).

Excavation, segregation and layout

Soil remediation by excavation, on-site treatment, off-site transport and disposal in a treatment or landfill site is a sustainable strategy. It is applicable to all volumes of contaminated soil, whether the contaminants are easy or difficult to treat, and enables rapid rehabilitation. However, it requires more planning time, larger spaces for segregation and optimization of the different fractions (low-level contaminated soils, highly contaminated soils and residual materials).

FAQs

Read our answers to frequently asked questions about our environmental services.

When a property requires environmental remediation, this is due to the presence of soils that do not meet regulatory values. Indeed, if non-compliant soils are detected beneath the foundations of an existing building on a property, they must be removed from the site. In this way, it is possible to draw up a rehabilitation report indicating that all the soil on the site complies with current regulations. If a building needs to be excavated, Biotix has solutions for you!

Yes, at Biotix, confirmatory analyses after excavation or segregation are highly recommended, as they confirm to the customer that the soils are non-compliant and that off-site transport to a treatment or landfill center is required.
